Renewell Included in List of 20 Energy Companies to Watch
We are pleased to share that StartUs Insights has named Renewell Energy one of the “20 Oil & Gas Startups to Watch in 2025,” highlighting our innovative use of gravity-based storage technology to advance clean energy infrastructure.
Our inclusion reflects growing recognition of the role mechanical energy storage can play in the global energy transition. At Renewell, we’ve developed a patented solution that converts idle and orphaned oil wells into a new class of gravity energy batteries, delivering electricity from gravity in a way that is scalable, cost-effective, and environmentally restorative.
What Sets Renewell Apart
Gravity Well Technology
Our flagship system — the Gravity Well — stores energy by lifting and lowering a weight inside a sealed well. When energy is needed, the weight is lowered, powering a regenerative winch that delivers electricity to the grid. When surplus energy is available, the system resets by raising the weight. It’s a low-loss, long-duration green energy storage method that doesn’t rely on rare minerals or chemical reactions.
Repurposing Legacy Infrastructure
With over 2 million inactive oil wells in North America alone, there is massive untapped potential beneath our feet. Renewell is one of the few companies turning this challenge into a climate solution — allowing us to repurpose idle oil wells for storage and clean up idle oil wells in the process.
Grid-Scale Value, Immediate Deployment
Because we utilize existing infrastructure, our model reduces capital costs and regulatory hurdles, enabling faster deployment compared to traditional storage systems. We’re uniquely positioned to meet the urgent need for distributed, long-duration energy storage.
This recognition from StartUs Insights reinforces our commitment to delivering practical, impactful solutions that benefit both the grid and the environment. As we continue to scale, we welcome conversations with strategic partners and investors who share our vision for accelerating the clean energy transition through gravity-based innovation.
